I think my two female rats I bought from Petco are pregnant. So I will be keeping one of them in the big cage I have now and I need another for the other one. Cuz I read that you shouldnt keep to pregnant females in one cage or they will fight over the babies and hurt them on accident. But the cage I just bought was so expensive and I dont wanna buy another one because I need to be saving the money for when the babies come here. I was thinking of making a big one. Does anyone know of a good site that sells big cages for cheap or shows you how to make big cages? I live in Glendale,AZ by the way. Thanks everyone. Oh yah by the way why I want a big cage is because I want my rats to have a nice home. I hate when people cramp their rats in small cages, its sad. Thanks

Also I need it to be safe for rattlets so the bottom of the cage needs to be covered(not wired) so the rattlets wont fall out.

Cocktail cages are the ideal size for pet rats. All a person has to do is secure the doors that open for food/water dishes. We sell new bird cages for about $46.00.
Superpetusa.com sells shelves and walkways that are rat safe.
I have donated to schools, but don't know the brand of cage that is multistory, with walkways, shelves, ramps, which all look like a type of garden mesh material and part of the cage, virtually 3 stories tall and sturdy, have never seen in a catalogs but maybe at Orschelns or Tractor Supply.
Goodwill and Thrift shops are excellent places for used cages.
I breed and sell pet rats and have never had experience with females arguing over young. The females share tasks of raising young, even the father helps.
Male rats can be neutered too.
Provide ample fruits and vegetables in the diet to prevent obesity and please, not cedar bedding or the cheapest food.

The females are fine together. I have 5 breeding females in a cage. No problems. Do make sure the babies can't get stuck anywhere like between the wires. If you do get a big cage I suggest looking at some bird cages. You'll have to convert them a little, but they end up real nice. Good luck!
