I have never owned one personally, but i have known people who did and they are the most wonderful dogs and really great with kids. they always seem to be just VERY large babies. I am pretty sure Iv'e never heard of one biting anyone. Since you can't have one yet, keep looking and learning.

I had one years ago. He was a big lovable clown. He got along great with everyone and all the animals, two horses, a pony, a goat, chickens and the pigs. He would chase the cats and I don't think he would have known what to do if he caught one. We had a big old tom cat that wouldn't play the game. Barny would go running at the tom and he would not move. It was so funny to see that 90 lb dog come to a screeching halt.
They do require a bit of grooming. Living on a farm even with the grooming he would still get matted and we had him shaved every spring. Which leads to my next story. Ever wonder how they can see with all that hair in front of their eyes? Well, they can't. Before we moved to the country when I would take him for a walk he, like all dogs, had his nose to the ground and would walk into power poles and hedges. After we moved to the country he had free roam and never ran off with the other dogs. That was until spring when he got clipped and he was gone with the other two. Then his hair grew back out and he could not see very good so he stayed home.
His thing when I was outside he would come to me and sit his 90 lbs on my foot.

All dogs are good with kids - the only times a dog would be agressive it would be if the owner would treat the dog badly, i.e beat it, don't feed it enough or incite it to fights.

A sheep dog is placid - whether it is an english sheep dog, or any other type - their instincts are to protect and keep watching over their master.

Dogs are the friendliest creatures and once shown affection a friend for life.

The world dog encyclopedia says that they are very loyal and good with children but that varies with the individual dog

In my experience The Old English Sheepdog is brilliant with kids. If I had to find a fault with them it is that they are a bit clumsy in their efforts to please and tend to knock toddlers for six! Early training is essential as they are an extremely ebullient breed
Keep it's tail on if you can because it looks fantastic!

they love kids and they do well in aparments.
they came in only 2 colors blue and gray.
the breed is a homebody, and early training is necessary mostly to control its intense demands for affection.this breed is an excelent companion and guard dog...

Like any breed, if you make sure you buy from a reputable breeder who has temperament as a priority when breeding, OES are fine with children, but they can be stubborn & need firm handling. They also, of course, needs LOADS of regular grooming to prevent all that coat from knotting.
