Damn, that is a tough question. That depends on what you mean by enlightenment?
There is a Historical Context - Haught's, Holy Horrors
There are the newer books by Dawkins (The God Delusion) and Christopher Hitchens God is Not great.
Political - Barry Lynn's - Piety & Politics: The Right-Wing Assault on Religious Freedom
hope that helps - I've loved them all.

The God Delusion was quite an interesting read and very funny, too. I am just starting God is Not Great so I can't comment on Hitchens book.
Overall Dawkins works i.e.-The Selfish Gene, The BlindWatchmaker I would recommend

Thomas Paine, "The Age of Reason" is likely the best of them all. Nietschze's "Twilight of the Gods" is good.
Modern authors like Dawkins and Sam Harris are also quite excellent.

"The God Delusion" was good. If you want to read up on a book that really is focused on Christianity I thought "The Incredible Shrinking Son of Man" by Robert Price was excellent.

I became an atheist by reading the Bible. That book is the only way to the truth. The truth being, that there is no God. If you don't believe me, read it and ask questions. If you truly have an open mind. There is no way you will continue to believe in God.

The Bible dismisses God in a very hilarious way, but you also have Atheism:The Case Against God by George Smith which is a little more serious.

I just started reading "The God Delusion" and it's pretty interesting. Next, I'm going to start reading either "The Blind Watchmaker" or "Letter to a Christian Nation." I'm still deciding which.
Oh, and I'm a Christian, lol.
