You question would be easier to answer if anyone know how a cat was supposed to behave in the first place! I've never known a cat who behaved like the books say. They're all crazy in their own way. The first kitten I had caused so much trouble that the upstairs neighbour came to the door to complain that his rottweiler was scared to come down the stairs because of her! My Turvy who was with me from he was 8 weeks old until he died at 17 years had no idea at all what being a cat was. He was a miniature, fluffy person. Now I have two girls who allow me to live with them and one of them sleeps on her back with all four legs sticking up - and she snores! Personally, I think they all read the first chapter of "HowTo Be A Cat" and think 'stuff that - I'll do it my way'

Your cat sounds like a tom cat I once had. He was very friendly with humans, almost like a lap dog. But he was also very territorial and earned a reputation as a 'yob'. Even having him 'done' didn't stop him fighting. He would patrol his patch and fight any animals in the area, including the neighbour's Great Dane dog... and he won. Some cats are just like that, make sure you have vet insurance to cover any injuries.

My dog acts like a cat and my cat acts like a dog. I have a Shiba Inu (well, my mom does, I moved out years ago) and a tom cat.
Mitu (dog) likes to sit in windows and ignore the humans unless he wants something. He won't do any tricks and he is manipulative.
Gemini (cat) follows me to the store, follows me everywhere really, plays fetch, sits on command (okay, he'll only do it for a treat). He's a pretty cool cat.

I have a cat that greets me at the door everyday when I get home, plays fetch (but only with little balls of rolled up paper, he won't fetch anything else!) and will go outside on a leash. I thought I was adopting a cat but he acts more like a dog!

One of my Siamese who weighes around 7lb beat up our bullmastiff. She was like a wild thing, it was very scary! I would have my money on her over all the cats and dogs in our area she is real wild and nasty with it as well! If the bullmastiff was a poodle or a little dog i think she wouldnt have stopped until it was the dog was lifeless on the floor! (Bull is unhurt by the way and still tries to play with the cat!)

Sounds like that cat was raised with dogs.
My friend has a cat that doesn't know how to meow, and continuously tries to bark... because she was raised around dogs, and never saw another cat since it moved in with her.
We have two female kittens and a male Springer Spaniel--his traits are definitely rubbing off on the girls!

Never seen a full grown cat who wouldn't. I have a dog that thinks it's a cat. He loves to perch and lay in the sunlight.
