Neither will do much for upper body, Both are great for overall health, but if you want to target your upper body I would suggest swimming laps. It is also a great cardio workout that targets both your upper and lower body. Swimming is also easier on the joints than either running or jogging.

Say hello to Mr. Sprint. They are far superior to any steady state longer distance running. Sprinting will keep your body in calorie burning mode ALL DAY, the distance running will burn calories during that period of time and shortly after, but not all day. Sprint and be merry.

for the 1,000,000,000 time you can't spot reduce fat via exercise or through the diet. the body loses fat all over with the fat in the mid-section typically being the last to go in the majority of the population
