Try increasing your fibre intake, it will initially increase the amount of wind but it will get your bowels going and they should become more regular.

It could be IBS, or irritable bowel syndrome. Do some research and, if you have most of the symptoms, talk to your doc and see what he can do for you. MiraLax is a laxative that was normally only used in hospitals for constipation and has just recently come out on the market for the public. Try this and see if this clears up your problem. If you are taking narcotics (like lortab, etc.), these can make you constipated as well. Another drug to look into is Senokot-S, which is also a laxative, but this one is made specifically for those with constipation related to the use of narcotics. Try to stay away from cheese and dairy products as these can complicate your problem. If this does not work, then get to the doc's office and get his/her help.

You have a good diet, presumably no nausea/vomiting or pain in abdomen. Passing gas is also not excessive as it is under your control. Still, you need to have a check up and rule out any abnormality of gut. Prolly it will be normal for you to have BM less frequently, but once in five days is not acceptable. Suppose by high fiber in diet (Fruits, salad, leafy vegetables etc) you can bring it to one BM on alternate day, if not daily, it will be alright. That would be normal for you. Drink at least 3-4 litres of water daily. One liter just on rising. Go for some exercises daily.
All the best!

Water! for the bowels to work properly they need water, if you arn't drinking enough its not going to work so 8 big glasses of non caffinated fluid a day! (caffine take water out of your system)
Also natural fibers such as the ones found in prunes, bran, leafy green veges and fruit with the skin on, apples pears.
if you are drinking enough and eating lots of good natural fiber there are a variety of aperients (poo-makers) that the doctor can reccomend but do see a doctor because you need to find the right one!
happy toilet going!

Sh*t happens pal ..... sometimes ! Seriously though, it sounds like the gut is in turmoil, perhaps through stress, and 'out of tune' with its motions and thus causing extreme flatulence ( or as you so beautifully put it, a lot of farting ). People are right on here when they direct you to IBS ... alternate loose and hard motions with loads of gas in between ..... but it does seem like a result of stress in your life. Perhaps you need to look at that first and a return to normality should follow.

Hi Ben,
Your anxiety and anger are very high which in turn cause your tummy muscles to tighten which in turn restrict the free movement of your intestines. Your present condition is only a symptom so deal with the cause and the problem is solved.

For what it's worth, try Fybrogel. I can't imagine it'll do you any harm but you're the best judge of that. I've posted a couple of links below. I suffer constipation as well, as a result of spina bifida, so I know what it's like. Best of luck.

Stress and probably not eating regular meals but catching a snack on the move. Does this all ring a bell?
PS And not sufficient fibre in your diet.
