Anything that is a serious felony where the judge believes teh person will attempt to flee.
Had a case here where a guy burned his house down with his unconcious wife in it. He had a $1,000,000 bail, which is fmaily paid IN CASH, then he fled for five years...he was arrested and the bail was increased to $3,000,000.

Several factors go into the Judges decision when setting bail amounts. If the suspect were so wealthy that he/she could easily afford to lose the bond (10% of the bail), the Judge may set it that high or higher in a high profile case.

Usually those types of bond are for serious narcotics offenses or white collar crimes for people that have lots of money. The courts have ruled that in narcotics cases, very high bonds are justified due to the liquid assets that high level players can come up with.
For any serious violent crime, there would be NO bond at all.

Many crimes. Depends on the likelihood of his leaving the area once a bond is paid.
