me. and I was in Iraq. You'd think the politicians would've learned from Vietnam....especially since many of the politicians now lived in that era.

I absolutely agree. But I have to point out that the press really took the reins of this war from the start. Barely 3 weeks into the war they were calling it a quagmire with no hope of victory. The press and the politicians are part of the same problem. By reporting only what they want to, the press can make the politicians dance like puppets and paralyze the ability of Generals to win a war. When Congress declares war they need let it be fought and won without their interference.

A recent article posted by blogger/ journalist; Michael Yon, points to the fact that there is much progress being made since the surge. But of course you wont hear about it.
In any case yes , I agree, Politicians have no business dictating the outcome of war..How can we succeed when you there are politicians already ceding victory to our enemies?

Absolutly agree with you. This is why Vietnam went so wrong. The north vietnam was almost at it's knees during operations linebacker and linebacker too. Politicians wanted to end it becuase of public sentiment towards the war, bowing down to hippies and druggies, that's what lost vietnam, not the military operations. That's the only things democrats do, bow down and appease people. Republicans prefer to stand up and fight. Negotiating with terrorist doesn't work, and buring your head in the sand doesn't make it go away.

I believe politicians must learn over and over how bad a solution that goes through war it is. I have not the slightest doubt that military know it as no one else. But the good achievements in war with strategics and victories are not able to erase destruction, death and pain, besides fear and all sort of social breaks. If war could be done in only the troops fields.......... but you no it is impossible and all the less unscrupulous ones even play with missing them up with the most Innocent ones, often making use of it turning upside down the war "rules". And I respect to much the ones that go to war whose lives are also so precious like every one of us is. Bravery and devotion is their motto, no doubt. BUT:
I believe the world needs fiercely to re-think war. In extremis still happens - but shouldn't.

I agree. But then if the generals did what needed to be done we would have been out of Iraq and Human Rights leagues across the world would be in a furor as I'm sure they wouldn't agree with the methods the generals would resort to.

These politicians are not only running it badly with their involvement, most of them are prolonging it as they give hope to our enemies that we will roll over and give up. Politicians don't care...they aren't going to war...and the longer it lasts, the longer they can bash Bush... Treasonous, just treasonous.....

You know I would really like to hear the honest truth about what it is actually like over there from the soldiers, we can only speculate and form opinions based on what the media says, but how much of what they say is not slanted?

I agree. Government just needs to tell them where to go let the commanders worry about victory.
