I'm not a psychologist, but it seems like facing it is the best way. Try standing on a ladder for a while. If it is too scary to go to the top safe rung, just go as high as you feel comfortable with. Then as you get more comfortable go a little higher. Tell yourself you are safe and can take it. That is all that hypnosis does anyway. As you get comfortable with higher heights try new ways to make yourself comfortable. Just don't try too much at a time. Just push your comfort level a little at a time. And don't do anything really unsafe.

I had the same fear 'cause I once fell off a step ladder as a kid and was knocked out.....the thing that took the major portion of it away was a trip by airliner when I became a teenager.....yeah, I went all out and went as high as I could possibly go, and to top it off, the flight ran into a storm and the turbulence made my heart almost burst.....then the "fight or flight" instinct kicked in, and since I was already in "flight" (but not the kind I really wanted to be in), I knew I had to "fight".....was I gonna die frozen in fear or was I gonna do everything in my power to stay alive in a worst-case scenario.....my mind then became rationally focused that I had already faced my worst fear and now it wasn't the actual height of two miles above terra firme that was scaring me, but rather the plane getting hit by lightning, and knocking me down from the height that I was able to obtain at that point.....did that make any sense? Anyways, last year I even got on the Superman "Tower of Power" ride (a bench-type ride that shoots you 325 feet high alongside a tower at over 50 mph then free-falls after reaching the top to just a few feet above the ground) at a Six Flags theme park in Arlington, Texas, and this is over twenty years after that memorable flight.....talk about a rush.....time for you to take a plane ride if you haven't already.....straight up sentiments, and blessing to you.....

If you really want to conquer your fear of heights, you can do it all at once, gradually, or over time.
1) All at once - Find a high place that scares you and stay there until you no longer fear it. Your mind will eventually tell you your fear is irrational.
2) gradually - "desensitize" yourself to the fear of heights by viewing pictures of high places. Also, go as high as you can until you experience fear. The next time out go just a little higher and so forth.
3) gradual - Educate yourself about your phobia. Recognize that it is not rational. For example, I was terrified of snakes until I read the odds of a snake bite. That's all it took for me.

I wish I could help you, I have the same sorta problem. I have a fear of going near glass enclosures, like the kind in the mall. If I look at it while walking by it, m equalibrium gets all out of whack and I feel like I am going to fall.
I would think the thing to do would be to have a friend close by and get nearest to the edge as possible, having them hold you., or encourage you. I will help you if you help me?

Phobias such as this are very treatable with EFT and BSFF, two techniques that get to the root of the problem without a lot of talking and reliving.
Probably the basis for your fear is something you are unaware of and these approaches are amazing.

Hope this helps,

some people with fears try what is called emersion therapy where the person is put into a situation where the fear is right in front of them so that eventually they become numb to the fear or so it's suppose to go.

I just made that same question here and not so many people answered!
I think you should find something else to think about when your up high, like listen to music, or take a friend and converse with them, or hold someone's arm. Those are supposed to work, they seem to be for me
