I ran out of Aloe Vera and I've been putting vaseline on, but I just read vaseline is really bad for a sunburn, in another question, is it?
Its making it feel alittle better

The problem with using vaseline is it doesn't allow your skin to breathe, this can make the burn worse. how long has it been since you got sunburnt? I would suggest not putting vaseline on it. Plain moisturizing lotion would be better.

You can also soak for an hour or so in a lukewarm tub, this makes my sunburns feel much better and usually by the next day I am tan. (Which is nice because before I started doing this I would stay burnt for days). Good luck and feel better!

Here the deal. If you look at the contents on your Vaseline product, you'll see that it probably mostly petroleum. Which isn't intrinsically bad... petroleum does some nifty stuff.

Two of the major things that petroleum does is provide and obstacle to heat and moisture. Which is why you put it on dry skin - your skin isn't likely to get moisture from the outside, so it helps keep it from losing what little it has.

But neither of these things is really that great for a burn. You don't really want to keep a burn warm... it's had enough problem with heat already. And part of the risk with cracked skin or open wounds (as you often have on a burn) is the risk of infection... so you don't really want to keep it a moist breeding-ground for bacteria either.

You do want the skin to heal and extra moisture would help, you just don't want to seal everything in, as it were. If you want to put SOMETHING on it, you can probably use some aloe or vitamin E. Or perhaps better yet would be to apply clean, moist washcloths if you're not moving around much. If you use cool water in the washcloths it can help keep the pain from the burn down too!

Hope that helps!

You should never put anything greasy or oily on any burn of any type - so no to vaseline. Aloe is good, tea bags are good, there is even a type of aloe sunburn relief that has lidocaine in it to relieve the pain. But oily things keep heat in and can foster infection.

i think it would be bad bc it keeps the heat in and you do not want that you want the heat to be able to get out. i would try to get a hot shower that helps a lot. Get some more sun burn ointment.
