Not sure if I will be moving yet or not but my biggest concern is my cat who is my baby. I have a carrying cage for him but he hates car rides and cries very loudly. If I do move it will take about 5 days to get there driving full days. What do I do to make him comfortable? What do I do for him as to food and water on the way? Will he be too upset to eat and drink? Also what about his litter box?
Any of your ideas or experiences will be appreciated! = )
I will not give him away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I moved 3 days away with 2 goldens and my cat. The dogs were not as big of a concern as they love the car and they are much easier to take out to do their business but my cat I was very worried about. She also hated car rides and her crate but amazingly enough she was very good during the drive. I barely heard a peep out of her. To make her comfortable I had lined the bottom of her crate with a small blanket and something with my scent on it. Do plan on taking an extra day or 2 on your drive for frequent stops. I stopped and found a pet friendly hotel along the way to give all my animals a break from the car and to really stretch for the night. Water is your main concern. My cat didn't care too much about food with the stress she was under but you do want to keep him very hydrated. That's not to say don't try and feed him. Even keep some in the crate with him. As for the litter box, I had put some litter in a smaller container for her and when I made my stops I tried to show her where it was but again, she was not interested in it. She did use it when she wasn't under pressure to when we had stayed over at the hotel. If you don't plan on staying over anywhere do plan to give your cat time to use the litter when you do make your stops. Don't pressure him but give him time and space to use it. I also gave my dogs a half a tablet of children's gravol and my cat about a quarter (our vet said it would be ok). That was enough to keep them calm, relaxed and sleepy for a good majority of the ride.

If you're still uncomfortable speak with your vet about it. Your cat will be fine though if you take the extra time during the trip to care for him.

I think the best way would be to move him by car. You'll have to put up with the whining along the way. You probably shouldn't feed him a long the trip that normally causes you to be left with cleaning up throw-up. You should feed your cat during stops and walk him around then. A towel or blanket your cat likes that you wouldn't mind giving up would make the box comfier on the trip.

well keep it in a cage if you are going in car stay with it comfort it feed it everything it likes. Or if you want you can let it walk around the car and either put plastic on the seats for when it needs to go or put a small catbox on the floor or just stop and let it out but i wouldn't do that. :-)_) opps sory didn't se the details o well

Plan A - Drive with him. Walk him every 3 hours. You'll have to carry or buy food and water. You'll have to deal with the crying.

Plan B - You fly him there, put him at the vets, and then fly back to start your drive.

Plan C - You find a volunteer to keep him for a few days or weeks. Then you either fly back and visit, or your volunteer flies and visits you at your new place.

Consult your vet. Sometimes it's necessary to "medicate" animals during long trips, especially if they are used to being homebound. Your cat hates it's travel cage. You are in for a stressful trip, but not as stressful as your cat's. Call your vet and get his/her advice. And, good luck with your move, if it happens.
