How many feet is the highest you can fly safely before you hit the ozone layer?

Well, the highest you can fly is determined by the engine. In a jet engine, you are basiclly being pushed along by a huge fan. The turbine of the jet can't function in really thin air, so a commercial jet stays below 35,000 ft normally.
Now, the military and NASA have come up with jet engines that work up to 100,000 feet. They are trying to come up with a hybrid engine that can go even higher.
None of this has anything to do with the ozone layer, however. The ability of a jet to function has to do with air pressure and the lift that an engine can produce at a given altitude.

The ozone layer has little to do with flying.
To clarify a few things. Jet engines produce THRUST. Wings produce LIFT.
Passenger jets can and do fly above 35,000 feet (FL350). Most commercial passenger jets are certified between FL410 & FL430. There are corporate jets manufactured by companies like Dassault, Gulfstream and Cessna that can fly up to FL510.

Most jets fly around 38,000ft, but the highest possible without crashing would probably be around 43,000ft or so. Hope this helps
