Is cancer treatment a sin?

Sorry, couldn't help it after that one freaked out earlier. :)

I know it won't help the issue, but it isn't like anything on R&S is going to change minds or really have an impact on the issue anyway. If I have to dig through preachy drivel every day, I'm allowed to swat the hornet's nest from time to time!

this is going to be a long answer so get your reading glasses:

First I'm going to get crap/thumbs down for this but who cares? I am VERY religious [I'm a Roman Catholic], with my religion, with my love of God I gained a lot of information/wisdom. I beleive that God is a being of understanding, of wisdom and of love, he knows all, understands all and sees all. I will give my life for Him that is how much i love God. that said, God is also a Father, our father and understands our circumstances, circumstances for each and everyone one of us.

that said, one a woman decides to have an abortion, she doesnt put it on a lsit of tihngs to do: do hair[check], do nails [check], get an abortion [check], buy blue dress[check], and go to party [check]. No it doesnt work like that! i beleive that people think deeply and throughoutly before geting an abortion. you see it is so easy for me to say "NO, ABORTION IS MURDER! ABORTION IS WRONG! U R SO GOING TO HELL!", no i'm not, on the contrary i try my best to understand her circumstances. God forgives all sins except the sin of blasphemy and not believing in Him. since he understands our curcumstances and HE will JUDGE us, who are we to judge others?? people who claim that others will go to hell for that have ntohing better to do but to judge. I personally dont tihnk that abortion is muder, it's funny cause some people do not beleive in abortion but beleive in the war in Iraq [ironic isnt it?]

No cancer treatment is not a sin, just like abortion...

For those of you who will give me thumbds down...by all means...go ahead.

I am pro-choice, but your question lacks logic. You assume that cancer cells and the cells of a potential human being are the same in a strictly biological sense, but you neglect to address what happens to them both as they progress. True, both cancers and embryos begin as bundles of cells that make up living tissue. However, a cancer, no matter how long it is left untreated, will always be a cancer. It doesn't have the potential to become anything else. On the other hand, the cells and tissue that make up a fetus will eventually become a human being. Thus the two are not equal in terms of biologic potential.

I read some of the answers then got bored.. so yeah one of them said that stem cell research is just an excuse to kill babies.. real educated response there..
Yeah, my friend's dad didn't have "inoperable" cancer cured by stem cells... surely it was his healthy diet and exercise regimen.
And if "pro-lifers" ever get their way with no abortion what about the children who are raped and become pregnant?? Do they need to go ahead and mother the child of a sociopath or sexual pervert because you just couldn't make it through the night thinking they had an abortion? Who the **** says it is up to you to choose?? It isn't, it is the female's body and her choice.. not a bunch of religious zealots picketing abortion clinics and pushing to have the personal information of people who do abort made public.
Seriously I hate you guys. You remind me of al-Qaida with your bombings and fanatic religious beliefs.

Very good point! A friend of mine had a similar argument once with a friend of hers. My friend is unable to get pregnant so she and her husband are exploring invetro fertilization and her friend told her that she's a staunch Catholic and feels that if people are unable to have children it's because God doesn't think they should have children and they should just take the hint. My friend, after crying for 4 days, called this woman and asked why, if she felt that people should follow God's plans for them, no matter how painful, she had used chemotherapy to fight her mother's cancer in an effort to keep her alive. Surely, that too, is contradictory to God's plan, isn't it?

People will come up with amazing excuses to support their own arguments, no matter how absurd.

Take one life for another? How does that work out?

Is there any proof that stem cell treatment is the answer?

I mean I know abortion is without question ending a life....
But are stem stells the absolute cure for cancer?

I'm really not eaither way - but your not making a fair analogy.

so babies are like cancer?

the treatment of cancer is the removal of a mutation which will cause death. to equate that on any level with a fetus is poor logic and does not advance your argument at all.

if a pro-life person were against abortion even when carrying the baby to term would possibly (or better, probably) lead to the death of the mother, then you have a parallel case to discuss.

This is an awesome question. I am pro-choice. I would also like to know if pro lifers are against smoking and drinking because they can kill a life.

I think they would almost have to be. Sometimes a baby can be killing the mother. So in that case it is a disease and would have to be removed.

I'm Pro-Life. I don't believe in sin however (how could I... I'm an atheist after all).

Treating cancer is not immoral. Independantly, the cancer cannot survive without interference. It is not a separate being, it is a part thereof, and one clearly identifiable as maladaptive (it kills, after all, and thus causes its own death).
