I meant to address this only to pro-life Christians who are also not pacifists. I don't think all Christians think the same thing about anything, much less about life and death. I'm sorry I wasn't clearer.

Well, I don't agree that killing in the military is okay...

There are, however, a few differences between the two cases:

1. Soldiers (usually) choose to risk their own lives... foetuses don't get any choice.

2. It is only right for soldiers to kill if it is in defence of the lives of the innocent.... ie foetuses are innocent... should not be killed.

3. Soldiers have experienced some life. All who have lived on this earth will be resurrected to eternal bodies. Those who have not lived, can't be resurrected. Aborting a foetus prevents it from becoming a life... an eternal life. Killing someone who has already lived doesn't do that (although it is still a horrible thing to do).

So, hopefully this explains how a Christian can be pro-life and also (without hypocrisy) be willing to risk his own life (and kill) in defence of his country.

It is to serve and protect the innocent.

P.S. I do not agree with "pre-emptive" wars.

I don't necessarily think that it is completely legitimate to lump all Christians into this assumption. Being a Christian myself, the Bible tells me that murder is wrong. I also know many Christians that feel this way, whether it is an unborn or an enemy. I think the main reasons why Christians, or Pro-lifers as you said, stand behind the current regime and their decisions about war and foreign policy is because the Pres. is a proclaimed believer. Also, there is this entire concept of killing in the name of what is right and good. Biblically there were wars that God endorsed. I am no prophet, and I do not know God in a way that I can say what his opinion is of the current military efforts. But to answer your question I would say that there is some sort of good guy - bad guy justification for the reason why pro-lifers condone military killing. While I do not agree with this mentality, and I would always push a peaceful resolution, I do not know many of the things that our military leaders do. For all we know, many people (ie. military and religious leaders) are foregoing their morals beliefs to sustain the safety of the masses of people that are their sworn responsibilty. I hope this helps find a compromise in your question...if you find a solution, let me know because this is quite a debatable issue. kudos and God bless.

I think both abortion and war are horrible.
Abortion involves killing a child that has done absolutely nothing wrong. The baby didn't decide to be conceived. Causing innocent casualties in any manner are deplorable acts, IMO. Murder is murder is murder. I have no right to chose to take a life. It's not my place.
If you die as a soldier in war, you're dying for a cause which you have chosen to believe. When a baby dies from an abortion, they've had no choice. Unwanted babies are the cause of a lack of responsibility and love on the parents' part.
I'm not for war, but since we're already in it, we need to be responsible and find a better way to finish this. Staying in there forever isn't good, but dropping our mess and leaving would cause a worse mess than they had to begin with.

With every fiber of my being I believe that abortion I wrong. For the "Pro-Choice" types: A choice was already made before she got pregnant. But on the flip side, I don't think there should be laws prohibiting it (any more than we should have seat-belt or helmet laws) nor should my tax dollars be used to fund abortion!

because abortion is always murdering the innocent and fighting to defend oneself is not.
Why do not Pro Choise folk accept openly killing off those who are "life unworthy of life' and as well as just killing off the pre born?

I don't believe that war is good, nor am I in favor of capital punishment. Or euthanasia. The only killing I can approve of is self-defense (or defense of people who can't defend themselves...i.e., the police sharp-shooter who shoots the maniac with an automatic rifle who's locked himself in a tower and is picking people off one by one).

Abortion kills the innocent. Most wars kill the innocent also. I am opposed to both. I make exceptions for wars to get rid of people like Hitler. But I am not infavor of the Iraq war. Bush will be judged severly for it!

I am a pro-life christian, to me that means that all life is precious. I don't feel I have the authority to take anyone's life, whether they are still in utero or in there 90's.

Mother Teresa said, "It is the greatest poverty that a child must die that we may live how we want."

Ithink that anyone who takes another life thinking they are doing anyone any good is mistaken.

We are called to be advocates for the innocent and those who cannot defend themselves.

In protecting a baby with no voice, we are being advocates.
In sending military out to protect school childreen from Sadam Huseins brothers who steels 10 year old girls for sexual slavery ... we're again protecting the innocent and those who cannot defend themselves.

Not good, never good, but sometimes necessary for the defense of a nation. Abortion is NEVER necessary. Thousands of couples are more than willing to adopt a child. Or even better, don't be reckless with your sexuality in the first place.
