I believe a testimonial is like a your own personal story that relates to a certain subject.

If you are refering to a customer testimonial, its refers to the specific expirences you have with the product. Its like when those jerks get on the commercial and tell you how much thier life has changed for the better since purchasing the new electrofied thingamajig and how they cant live without it now.

Think of a Testimonial as what you would say about something you have lot's of knowledge about. A best friend's wedding what you would say about the groom as best man is a Testimonial. Your car you rebuilt from ground up speaking from knowledge is your testimate to what you did?

A testimonial is your opinion of your experience, generally supposed to be "POSITIVE." (the opposite of a 'critique')

So, if you had dinner at a restaurant and someone later asked you for your testimonial, it could sound like this: "We arrived at the restaurant and were greeted immediately by the hostess. She seated us promptly. Our waiter came thereafter and took our drink orders. The drinks took very long to arrive, but the waiter was very apologetic. Our food order arrived and the food was excellent and hot. It would highly recommend this restaurant."
