Aww don't worry about it. A lot of people don't like needles and they make it through okay. Just stay calm during the process, don't tense up, and don't watch. You'll feel a tiny pinch (if anything) when the needle is inserted and that will be all. You won't feel anything as the tube is collecting your blood I promise. If you need more than one tube of blood some nurses can be a little rough when they switch the tubes out causing the needle to move a bit (causing some discomfort, not bad). I highly doubt you'll need more than one tube of blood for an allergy test, and if you do, make sure the nurse knows you are terrified of needles and pain. Also, talk to the nurse before she does the needle. Sometimes they are able to use a butterfly needle (baby needle) which results in even less pain (they did this for me for my pre-op testing 2 years ago). Hope this helps. Stay calm, don't tense up. You'll be okay, it'll be done before you know it. Good Luck. :-)

The best thing anybody can do to help you is to remind you of what a piddling small thing a tiny little needle stick is compared to the awful misery that you might face as a result of some longterm illness that will rob you of your sense of wellbeing and your mobility and much, much more, if you refuse to allow the doctors to do their job and run the tests they obviously believe you need.
Remember this, you can never turn the clock backwards, and the last thing you EVER want to hear a doctor say to you is "If you had only had this test done, if you had only had this condition treated sooner, you would not be in this situation now". Unfortunately I can assure you, every single day hundreds of people ARE hearing this from a doctor, and by the time they do they are bitterly regretting what they refused to do, or neglected to do, weeks, or months sooner.

Dude, I have gotten over twenty five blood test in my 25 years of living. I used get one every month. I was taking a very strong achene medicine. The only thing you can do is look the other and hold on tight to the chair. Another thing you can do is have someone go with you and have them be there so you can grab on to them with one hand. I do not understand why people are afraid of needles. The are not that bad. My brother is afraid of needles, but when he needs a shot or something he just looks the other.

The best i can tell you is to just do it anyway. I was always afraid of needles and now getting blood drawn or a shot does not hurt. Just stay very relaxed and take deep breaths. Tell the person you are very afraid of needles and they will assure you its ok. It does not hurt that bad. Right before they do it just envision it not hurting and maybe even envision being in a different place. When i did this the nurse had to tell me it was over because i didnt feel it lol. You will be ok !

Ask your doctor for a prescription for emla cream. You put it on the area where they are going to take the blood and it numbs the area so you don't feel the needle. It takes about an hour to work so put it on early in the day or the night before. I would apply it on both arms since you don't know which one has the better vein.

It might help to have a friend go with you. Also, look away from what the lab tech is doing and think about something entirely different. See if your friend can go in with you and have him/her talk with you while the procedure is being done. Good luck- I'm a nurse and it usually doesn't take the tech that long to get the blood.

Tell them you are a bit nervous, (they are usually very nice people), look the other way and think of all the truly sick people who have no choice but to get stuck with needles all the time. You're alive. Be happy.

Just take some deep breaths and realize that it will help you feel better and will be over really quick. Don't think about it - Try and think happy thoughts - tell yourself that you have no problem with needles.

I look the other way until it's done. Maybe bring your Ipod and jam out while he's poking at you. I've done that before too. had to get 7 stitches in my thumb last month, not fun. Fortunatley I had the Ipod.

this is what i do, especially when im at the dentists:
i look around the room (without moving too much, duh)... and try to count all the colours i can see
it'll distract u for a moment cuz atleast a blood test is much quicker than anything at the dentists..
one thing u should NEVER do is look at the needle !!
oh ya and take huge deep breaths slowly
