Why is it considered insulting to be a Mama's boy, but being a Daddy's girl is a term of endearment?

It is a gender stereotype. "Mama's boys" are typically more needy and immature, and that goes against the stereotype of the big, strong man. "Daddy's girls" are delicate and protected by their fathers, which is socailly acceptable for women.

I just think it is the stereo type of Mamas boy that is insulting. The 30 year old who lives at home with mom and mom still does his laundry, cooks his meals and cleans up after him. The stereo type of Daddy's Girl is a girl who will always have her daddy to fall back on when things just get a little rough and they need money to buy a new dress or something.

On the other hand there are sons who don't live at home but still have a closeness with their mother and there is nothing wrong with that. He is independent, but still looks up to his mom and cares about what she has to say. There is the daughter who is in dependant because of her father. She knows that it is okay to go out in the world and try and do great things and not be afraid to fall and if something did go wrong, her father would be there. Therefore she can accomplish so much.

It can be insulting if the man truly IS a Mama's boy and dotes upon his mother over his wife (speaking from experience). Daddy's girls I would know nothing about as I grew up without my father, but I always pictured Daddy's girls to be able to take care of themselves...

i dont think its insulting. i think mamas boys turn out to be the best husbands because their mamas actually teach them how women should be treated. and with daddys girls its kinda the same thing except when the girl grows up and looks for a man, she needs to find one that would give her everything under the sun no matter the cost or consiquences.

All the guys that I know who are mama's boys are either very feminine, whiny, cry babyish, or gay. Lol. I am not saying all of them are, just the ones I know. I know like 5 or 6. Two of them are gay. The other 4 are whiny, cry babyish, and feminine. Being a daddy's girl is wonderful. Because you are still a girl and not changing your attitude. Plus daddy's buy you presents.

I am not a daddys girl. I am a mommy's girl. Haha.

I think they both suck, my husband was a mamas boy, but when he found out I was not putting up with her or her mouth he soon set her straight. It give the person the sense of still being a child and needy, and plain out to much trouble for a real woman.
