Do you think it is actually possible to get rid of illegal immigrants? How would you do that? I appreciate you taking the time to answer that.

I would tell them to go after the real illegal immigrant criminals, you know?? the ones who are wanted by the police, the ones who have killed, robbed a bank, raped, etc. And to leave alone the ones who are here to do good, or have done nothing but good.

I will be very honest with you. I am very ignorant about the rules and regulations on illegal immigrants. I don't believe that people should live in poverty. There are those that believe we (the U.S.) has paths paved in gold. But, we have a difficult time helping our own families and children who live in poverty, have no health insurance etc. I think our borders do need to be patrol ed very strictly. Since 9-11, many (including myself) are afraid of those who are getting through the borders. I would get rid of illegal immigrants, and have them come the U.S. legally. However, if they have children born here that makes their children American born. How do we take care of them if their parents are illegal? That is another problem.

In the early 1900's, I had relatives that came to America from overseas. But they came through legally to NY and Ellis Island.

Raid every site and business that i could. Unfortunately I would not have enough agents to do this nor would it do me much good because the courts would hold up deportations and these folks would be right back out of the street before I had a chance to raid the next business.

If I had a blank check I would follow the example of the Sheriff in Arizona and go to the middle of the hottest, driest place in the United States and set up tents for the criminals to live in till their cases came up for review. They might get tired of waiting for their lawyers to draw out the judicial process.

Then those here just illegally but had not committed any other crime, I would send them back to where they came from. For those that had committed another crime, then they would have to serve their time before being sent back.

Unless you make it hard for them to come here; make it hard for them to find a job; and make it hard time if they are caught then what incentive do they have not to come.

Zomba, ICE is seriously understaffed and underfunded. Their are over 600,000 alien absconders out there, and it is ICE's duty to find them and bring them to trial. They need at least 3 times as many agents as they now have.

What I would do is to go into Church's that I knew were giving sanctuary to illegals, arrest the illegals and those who were aiding them. I would charge those who were hiding the illegals with aiding and abetting illegal aliens. That is a felony! I would call the media before the arrest and make the clergy do a "perp walk" in front of the TV cameras!

A good start would be enforcing the current laws. When illegal aliens are found, they should be fined and jailed, as well as a fine for anyone employing them. Then, after a jail term, they should be put on a bus and shipped back where they came from. Any children that were born here should be deported as well, thus not breaking up families. Amnesty and guest worker programs merely exacerbate the problem by creating a semi-legal underclass to blame for all the problems that aren''t being solved.

I'd hit every single meeting of the illegals hate groups, I'd hit the parking lots of home improvement stores, I'd hit all the liquor stores, I'd cruise L.A. at night for the gang bangers, go through neighborhoods that house 50 to a room, so much more, I'd open an office in New Haven, and I'd deport anyone who was arrested for any reason without proper documentation. I'd make the Ers report on illegals and be ready to deport them after treatment, I'd check the status of all pregnant women being admitted to our hospitals. My gosh, the list is endless.

I know it would take time and money, but I cannot forget the pain I felt on 9-11 ... so I'd shut the borders completely. Not forever. If you are a legal American citizen, you can get in the country. If you are a tourist, go home, come back next year. If your tourist or student visa has expired, Bye Bye. Yes, it would be hard, it would be chaotic, but we need to know who is here and what their intentions are. Other countries are VERY strict about who they let come and go. We should be too. Even as I write that I know we cannot be isolationists, but we need to start somewhere ...

Enforce the current laws... that is all one COULD do.

What I'd LIKE to be is the Attorney General... then I could start prosecution of those who are HIRING them. Make it a very scary proposition to give them work... no work, far fewer illegal immigrants.

As a voter, I write my State and Federal representatives and tell them to get serious and start working for US instead of the Corporations. Build the FENCE, Deport them ALL, and get the jobs BACK in the USA.

You already have a lot of great answers and I would do many of the things suggested, except the hug deal.
What I would like to point out is there are a Lot of jobs here where I live, and all the illegals are welcome to come and get them. If they don't like the wages or conditions, they can work to change them. No one needs to be unemployed here, the richest man in the world is here, silver, gold, great weather, all the good things in life.

I would follow up on leads received. I would have more raids on companies for illegals. If they cannot prove they are in this country legally right now, I would jail them and arrange for deportation immediately. Get as many illegal criminals out of this country as possible asap. None of this BS about notifying company ahead of time so the illegals can arrange for the care of their children either.
