We called them monkey balls or horse apples, it is actually Osage Orange. You can't sit under the tree as they are heavy and hurt if they hit you when they fall off the tree. Great to throw at siblings, though!

I used to know the name of that when this same question was posted previously. It has a weird name like monkey fruit or horse apple or some other combo of animal and vegetable and grows in southern US.
