In our mosques I have never noticed any segregation, white, yellow, blue whatever your race Muslims are treated the same, but I have noticed when I went a little bit further south that that is not the case. Am I correct in assuming that different groups might have different centers of worship within the same religion based on racism??? It is sad that this still exists!

My specific example comes from talking to a person who is black and has been very much discriminated against to the point that she left that worship service

No, I've never seen that but I've heard of such problems within other groups.

Edit:
For some reason people always forget the *slight* practical problem with Muslim women and men praying in close proximity in a mosque--think about videos you must have seen of Muslim men praying, and use your imagination. Muslim women place a high value on their modesty, and it would not be preserved in such a setting.

I really have no problem with gender segregated services, period. Racial segregation is a completely different issue.

In the south people do tend to segregate themselves but I think it has a lot to do with what they are comfortable with and seeking in a church. I have also been to churches where the congregation is mixed and they are all treated the same. Where I am at we have 4 nationalities in our small church and it is given in 2 different languages and once we even had 3 languages at the same service. I love it but it can be confusing

NC woman in the back of a mosques are not because they are less than men it is so that they can pray properly without being self-conscience of their behind in some strange man's face..

I am from the south. It is not forced segregation though. There are black churches and white churches, and asian churches, and any other kind of church.. I guess people just feel more comfortable at their own that their family has been going to for a very long time. Black churches tend to use gospel with lots of singing and white churches are more traditional with talking and sermons. Asian services are conducted in various asian dialects. You get the idea. Its not sad, its by choice. Atlanta is one of the most segregated cities I have ever seen. People just want to live with people like them, they have that right,

I don' t think it is due to racism, but cultural differences. I think that people go where they are most comfortable and they also go to the place they worship best. Maybe African Americans or other ethnic groups worship better with eachother due to their own culture. There are no rules of segregation at churches or mosques - it is just our natural way of flocking with others who are more like us. We have some African Americans and Hispanics in our church, although it is primarily Caucasion, but we are in a primarily Caucasion area of our city. Just the way things are.

I was raised and still reside in the deep south. I have seen that happen many times but a lot of it is not intentional. Most people feel comfortable within their own race but do not disconnect from others who want to join them. I was raise in a non-denomination church and there were many different races and cultures. It was mostly white but we were all family like.

no not really i mean most time it just happens like that no intentions but like we have some black churches but that is just bc mostly black people go there but if a white person or someone else were to walk in it would not be a big deal they would invite them in and be very kind to them. So it is not on purpose or anything based on rasism or anything it just happened to be where the church is place at. People can go to any church they feel they want to attend to no matter what race relgion they are and people would welcome them with open arms at least the churches that i have attended done that. They were christian based churches.

Here in Texas there are many different 'types' of churches, and some even divided by race; we have black and white churches, asian churches, hispanic churches. It's because culturally we wish to worship a certain way and they differ according to race.

But that's not always true, and I can say that we don't really care what color you are, as long as you show up!

In Unitarian Universalism there is no segregation by skin color, gender, or any other distinguishing characteristic other than perhaps age (the little kids are generally whisked off to a service appropriate to their ages after about ten minutes).

Most institutions Islamic, Christian, Jewish or otherwise are there for one reason and one reason only for the pleasure of the lord.. but there are places where money is power and people are put in lines and groups...

I imagine there are some who do segregate themselves, and sadly most/all people have some impulses, even bigotries they must fight. I personally am one of Jehovah's Witnesses, have visited several congregations, so far only been in the south, and noticed such beautiful harmony.
