If she says I am not pregnant then say "Oh well I guess this is your wake up call. You need to loose some weight."
I don't see anything wrong - basically you are helping them get healthier and live longer.

You shouldn't ask anybody when the baby is due unless you know for a fact they are pregnant. If you suspect a pregnancy, you should say, "Sooooo....what's new with you?" If they are pregnant, then it's going to come up. Another thing you can do is say, "Well, you look positively beautiful today. I hope you feel as good as you look!" This, of course, is a compliment than nobody can feel bad about receiving. If the woman is pregnant, she might let on to some of the typical pregnancy discomforts, or she might say something like, "Oh, well, it's not me -- ever since I got pregnant, I've had that glow people say you get..."

gees , does this question strike a cord with me. I had been out of town for a long, long time, When I came to visit my mother, my cousin was there. Noticing she had a rather large belly, i was happy for her at the thought of her having a baby, she'd been trying a long time. I didn't say a word, excused my self and went to the nearest mall, and bought a few baby things. I was not going to be in town for the next year, so i knew i would miss the birth.
When i returned home,i again excused myself to the bed room to wrap the gifts and waited till everyone was in the living room, and gave her the gifts. When she asked what was the occasion, i just told her to open the gifts. Well and baby rattle set, and baby's first book took her by surprise. She didn't say anything, but started crying. I was in tears myself, because i knew for years she had been trying. Well she gave me a hug, and said thanks, but she had found out two months ago, that she couldn't have children, but the thought of me knowing how hard she had been trying, and the gifts meant to , 'don't give up' were touching

First of all why would you ask that? that is rude. women go through the American culture getting picked a part bit by bit. they are told every day that they are not beautiful or sexy, so to even make a statement like that is just, low. if you know if the girl is pregnant, go ahead, but to just assume that's wrong. leave their weight alone. Try this: Get to know a girl who is over weight BUT get to know her, and look past her extra pounds, there really is more there ;-) (no pun intended)

Exactly, this is mostly in movies where its obvious to normal ppl that the woman is fat, not pregnant, but in movie world of course anything goes.
That shouldnt happen in real life, ppl should not be so dumb.

Some comedian - mightta been Chris Rock - said that unless he sees her feet up in the stirrups in the delivery room, he will NEVER assume that any woman is pregnant. Good advice.

My grandmother always said that unless a woman was in obvious labor, you should NEVER assume she is pregnant. Generally, if a woman is pregnant, she will bring the subject up herself. Follow her cues.

It should be clear enough that you just don't ask a woman if she's pregnant, ever. If you know she is pregnant, you can ask when she is due. If you are not absolutely sure she's pregnant, you don't say anything.

Apologize, and run.....how uncomfortable would that be! Or hope when she says "what baby", there is another pregnant woman in the room and you refer to her, saying you thought they were friends!

It should never happen. The difference between a fat belly and a pregnant belly is obvious.
