any "weight" gained over a 24 hr period is nothing more than water that is retained or the actual weight of the food items that were ingested. the body does not increase body fat at any measurable rate in such a short period of time. weight (fat gain) occurs when there is a caloric excess over an extended period of time.

3500 calories equals 1 pound. We all burn a certain amount of calories just by living. So if a person were to eat more calories than burned, they would be gaining weight. I suppose you can gain quite a bit in 1 day but would get sick at a certain point. To gain 5 lbs in one day you'd have to eat 17500 calories, which is quite a bit!!
