OK, let me refine what i meant here.
I'm talking about the stuff on TV.

Wrestling in schools is a genuine martial art and has been practiced as a competative sprt since greek/roman times...

but the stuff on tv...

is it sport? or extreme theatre?

Well lets look at what is considered a sport these days. First off people call hunting a sport. Hmmm. Rednecks running around shooting down critters okay I kind of fail to see the competition there. Maybe if the animals had guns I could see it being a sport. What about something slightly more mainstream. Figure skating. Two people working together to put together a routine that will impress a group of people based on their flawless execution. Hmm kind of sounds like wrestling. Hell I have even heard people refer to Big brother and Survivor as sports. So look at it this way. Are the two wrestler in the ring competing against each other to win the match. No they are not. But are these same two wrestlers competing against the guys before or after them to put on a better match. Hell yes they are. And therein lies the competition. So I guess it's all how you look at it. But if those other things are considered sports than I would say wrestling is definitely a sport.

What kind are you talking about, TV stuff on Spike or folk, with schools? If you are talking about folk wrestling, it is a sport. At wrestling practice, we do a twenty minute run, fifty pushups, and sweat 2 gallons of sweat, trust me, it is a sport.

The biggest part of watching wrestling is getting caught up in the emotion of the match, as people we know it's fake (story lines) but we like getting lost to the characters story anyway. It takes us back to better, carefree, days.

P.S. Smoke crack and worship satan!

I don't consider that fake wrestling on TV to be a real sport.

But wrestling is a sport - my boyfriend's on our school wrestling team and he beats himself half-to-death trying to win against other schools. It's a vicious sport.
