The dose for loratadine - also available as Alavert and Claritin - is 10 mg daily for a 14 year old or an adult. Although the Equate brand is over-the-counter, it may be less expensive to ask your physician for a prescription. A one-month supply of loratadine is $4 at Wal-Mart. Although it says non-drowsy loratadine is mildly sedating. During its 77 month long Food and Drug Administration approval process as Claritin - the longest for any drug in history - sedation was the stumbling block. The FDA argued that the correct dose was 20 mg daily not 10 mg but at the 20 mg dose the FDA would not allow the company to call it 'non-sedating'. Thus, if the 10 mg dose does not seem to work as well as you had hoped do not be all that surprised. I cannot recommend the 20 mg dose to you for legal reasons but I not infrequently prescribe it at that dose to patients - which is legal. Physicians are allowed to use medications for indications and at doses other than advocated by the FDA.

Loradadine is claritin, its just generic. If it says 6 and up than take the recommended amount given in the directions. If your allergies are covered by Loradadine than yes you'll feel much better quickly.

Follow the dosage on the bottle - 2 tsp a day. Whether or not it will clear your allergies up by tomorrow depends on what caused your symptoms. It should make you feel better.
