I have this recipe for a dip that requires "softened" cream cheese so I left it out all day today (7 hours), is it still good or should I buy a new one or is the current one still safe?

i would just leave it out till you are going to use it. not over night or for a few days. it only takes it getting to room temp to be "soft"
i have left mine out all day (8-12 hrs) but never more than that.
after a while the bacteria starts to grow- can't see it but don't want it either ya know...

I would say it should be fine. But please don't leave it out any more then that, especially not a few weeks!
