what is the real difference between using vegetable oil and something like crisco shortening to "fry" something on the stove? I want to know if I can use crisco in place of vegetable oil to avoid the store. i know that i fry chicken wings in crisco, so why not something like shrimp? thanks.

there is no real difference in frying them, shortening is a bit more flavorful but more trans fat since its hydrogenated, other then that feel free to fry whatever you like

Shortening is animal fat or lard & vegetable oil is derived from plant sources. Shortening can make things taste richer and have a lower flash point and oils are a lighter but more defined taste with varying flash points.

It is determined by the fruit or veggie involved with a comparison. In the event that you compare a n to a carrot, the carrot is the better of the two nutritional. When you compare an avocado to the carrot, then this avocado is better. The two the apple and avocado, are fruits.

crisco, is another name for lard or animal fat that has been rendered to pureify it. Veggie oil is just that, oil from plants. Both work for frying. Veggie oil is better for you than lard. Olive oil is better, but adds a stronger taste to foods that some people don't like. Crisco or veggie oil can be interchanged for cooking or frying with no problem
