You go to the gym for variety of equipment and an atmosphere. It's not about addiction, it's about utility. Gyms tend to give better results because they get you up and out.

I go to the gym about 3 times a week, it is not addictive to me, i get bored if i do too long on the same machine. I go because i want to get fit, keep fit and lose a bit of my baby weight (the 'baby' is now 14mths!!)

To get fitter
To get stronger
To look better

Each time you go you feel as though you have made improvements in the above 3, and that's what makes it addictive!

I'm not interested in much sport and any exercises is better than none, I'm now fitter than I have been since I was working which will give you a good idea how unfit I was when I joined.
No I do not particularly enjoy it but it makes a change from an armchair

To get out of a house full of children maybe, or to meet people if you live alone.

I imagine a lot of people do it just to pass the time and feel better healthwise.

the whole idea of going to the gym, is to loose weight and become more fitter and active. And it makes you feel better mentally.

Exercise creates endorphins, which is the body's chemical to raise dopamine that ultimately, gives a natural high.
