10 year ago i had a reconstructive knee surgery which led to a gain of 100 pounds due to bed rest and no exercises.

i have tried everything in the past 10 years to lose weight but nothing seems to work. so i am thinking about a lap band surgery.

i am 5-8 250 pounds..... do i qualify for it and how much does it cost? I do not have health insurance.

i am trying to lose the weight before i get diabetes which hasn't hit me but i am worried it will soon.

I love my lap-band. I had complications but it was nothing major. They did a quick surgery and i was fixed. If you don't have healthcare it will be around $15,000+ My Dr. charges $15K from what i understand. I am in the DFW area (TX). I definitely recommend this surgery. It is adjustable & almost guaranteed to work. I really am glad my insurance covered it. I am 5'6 & was 228. Good luck in whatever you chose. But just know this is a life saving decision.

Weight loss surgery-like lap band surgery have become very common and very safe now. My cousin got her Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery in India. She has lost more than 65 lbs in 5 months and is very happy with the results. The price for obesity surgery is very less in India. My cousin just paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America. She got her surgery from a company called Forerunners Healthcare.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as Bariatric surgery and weight loss surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your Obesity surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps

As far as whether or not you qualify, you need to see a doctor to make that determination based on your body type.

As far as the cost, from start to finish, you're looking at probably ten grand at least. You need to figure in hospital costs, the surgeon's cost, and pre-op counseling and testing that is mandatory.
