They are not legalizing illegal immigrants. They are issuing ID cards (which are available to New Haven's entire population, not just illegals), which are meant to help anyone without a state- or federal-issued ID open a bank accounts and use other services that would otherwise be inaccessible. The illegals will be pouring into the city. Good riddance, Nuevo Refugio! Caving to illegals. Truly sad.

well, first of all, they are not legalizing anyone... a city nor a state has the power to do something like that. they are just issuing Identification Cards that an illegal immigrant can receive. they do not have many forms of identification if they are illegally in this country, and in turn cannot have a checking account or whatnot, so that's what the card would help them do, that's about it. furthermore,It is not just for them, but also for people w/o a drivers license and for children.

Don't worry! In months to come, they will have new problems to deal with because illegals are going to flood them out. As cities began to crack down, illegals will inevitably run to cities like New Haven.

The irony is many Puerto Ricans live there; If they are deceived in thinking illegals have their best interests at heart they have not lived in South Texas of California.

Great question!

I asked the SAME THING! WHY?

NO, it isn't a good place for them to go (native country would be better) - this is protecting the criminals from criminals - plain and simple. If you did something illegal, would you have the chance to just get a card and all would be forgiven?

ILLEGAL MEANS ILLEGAL - the conversation starts there.

Unfortunately, despite the city council there wanting to come up with a positive solution to the problem, they cannot overrule Federal law.

It was a nice gesture, but will be short-lived in fact.

They are not legalizing immigrants, just making it easier for them to open bank accounts, charge accounts, etc. This form of identity is to be in place of a legal ID - like a drivers license.

Yes, this is a great test case to see if illegals really add more to the tax base than they use in social services
