That depends on it you want to keep it off. The fad diets work to some extent. I did Atkins and lost 70 lbs. But, and I repeat but, I put it back on when I got off the Atkins plan. They are only good for short term and quick loss. Plus they are very hard on your body. The outside results may look good. But the inside results count too. 25 lbs isn't' really a lot in my opinion. Try a 5-6 small meal a day regimen, with whole grains, lots of fruit and vegetables, and good protein. Chicken, fish, meat. With a couple of small snacks (fruit, yogurt) in between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner. Also try working out 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week. Doesn't' have to be going to a gym or anything drastic if your concerned about time or fitting it into a schedule. Something as easy as walking or biking will do the trick. Good luck. Hope this advice helps.

I wouldn't suggest either to be 100% honest with you. Using slimfast has the nutrients equivalent to eating sawdust, and the atkins diet is bad for a few reasons.

1.) You essentially cut out ALL carbs so you drop weight fast - sounds good, but the weight you are losing is muscle mass as well as fat
2.) The minute you come off of the diet and start incorporating carbs back into your diet you start gaining weight back fast - a family friend did it and she gained back TWICE what she lost - it all comes back as fat, no muscle mass either

I know there's a lot of hype out there about atkins so you're probably thinking it can't be that bad, but truly it is. Just try eating healthier and working out. You'll lose that 25 pounds the healthy way then. Snack on fruits and vegetables, eat plenty of proteins, drink a lot of water. Cut out junk food, fast food, and greasy food. Do some crunches, 30 minutes of swimming/jogging/walking, run in place, lift some weights, do squats. All of this will help you lose weight while continuing to be healthy. Good Luck. :-)

Neither, I would suggest you learn how to eat a clean diet so that you don't end up regaining the 25 lbs by the end of the year. A lot of people eat such crappy foods, that if they just ate the proper nutritional intake, they would see amazing results. Atkins is too carb restrictive, slimfast is a total pile of crap.

If you are open to spending a little bit of money, I would recommend checking out Precision Nutrition by Dr. John Berardi. It's not your typical fad American diet, it's rules to follow for eating RIGHT. You first need to learn what kinds of foods your body needs when. Then you will be able to successfully design your own meals and also take more responsibility for fitness goals.

People never talk about this, but b/c I am seriously diabetic, I tried Atkins. It was fine in the summer for me, b/c I love fish and salad, but I hated it in the winter. All the meat, eggs and dairy constipated me so badly, that I thought I was going to need dynamite to poop again. I now know why cowboys walk so funny. I actually find the feeling of being constipated far, far worse than being diabetic. It also made my PMS issues, especially hot flashes, cramps and irritability, to say nothing of night sweats completely out of control. My logical self just doesn't buy that I can eat all the full fat dairy products, sausage, meats and eggs I want, and still be healthy. Anyone with as much hormonal upset in their family of origin as I have, CANNOT eat this diet and be well. Anyone w/ PCOS, endometriosis, estrogen dominance issues, Kawasaki's syndrome, thyroid issues, histories of any kind of cancer, especially breast, colon, cervical or uterine should avoid Atkins like the plague in my opinion. Atkins might be fine if you're a farmer, logger or a ditch digger, and a man. If you're not, stay AWAY! You asked for my opinion and experiences, you got it! Macrobiotic or raw foods diet works and worked much, much better for me!

I would go with Atkins, because you will be eating real food, and if you are following the program properly it will ease you into a permanent lifestyle.

Slimfast is not food, and it is not a sustainable lifestyle.

You do need to read the book carefully so that you know how to do Atkins properly and why and how it works.

Stick to real food as much as possible, and avoid low carb "products".

I perfer Atkins. I went from 203lbs down to 118lbs in about 4-5 months. Remember to do cardio, it's the only way to get rid of the belly fat. And I've gained some of the weight back after keeping it off for 2 years and I went back on it on Friday the 21st, and today, the 24th, I'm down 5lbs! Without exercise!

I suggest neither. Whichever you do... you cannot keep it up for the long term.

You need to make permanent changes to lose weight. Otherwise you will just gain it back.

And 25 pounds is no small feat.

I suggest eating smaller, healthier meals on a schedule (don't wait until your hungry), and more activity. 35-60 minutes a day for at least 4 days per week.

The people I've known who have used slim fast became constipated. ick

Eat less, do more....you'll do fine. Eat when you are hungry. Don't eat if you aren't hungry. Who was it that made the 3 meal a day rule?
