That many western holidays have pagan aspects or origins, that it's very nature-oriented and that there are a wide variety of pagan spiritualities.
Don't know where I've heard the above, but I have.

I am a secular christian, I do not attend a christian church.
I do however believe that a man named Jesus most likely did live, and I believe that his wife Mary, The Magdalene, who has been devalued, degraded, her image stained, and her high place in culture and society for the past 2000 years diminished, was not a prostitute. She, like many, is called a "sinner". Aren't we all? Yet, I no longer believe in "sin".
Just like the first biblical woman, Eve, she is diminished and blamed for her intelligence, her daring, her courage, and her curiosity...AND her ability to be herself.
I have indeed heard about Paganism. I am at this moment considering becoming one of their vast growing numbers world-wide. Paganism is NOT about demon- or devil-worship. That's a lot of hooey.
Paganism is a pantheistic or polytheistic earth-based, nature-based religion. Witches or Wiccans intend and do no harm. One of the most familiar things about witches is the practice of casting "spells". Spells are not about doing "tricks" on someone, or "revenge". Spells are best described as "probability enhancing".
Pagans belive in Goddess AND God, mutually, in harmony, and the two should never be separated. Why? To keep balance in our world. Much like the familiar Yin and Yang.
I am turning to Paganism out of sheer frustration with the old, out-moded, patriarchal (male-dominated) religions that are otherwise offered to me. They have for far too long devalued women and all but wiped out the Divine Feminine from the entire world culture and lore, and this has done the people of the Earth great harm. There is no balance!!!
But it's not too late. We can and will change the future of the Earth. The Piscean age is complete. We are now well into the Age of Aquarius, and the future is bright. It will stay that way if we listen...with our hearts and use our intelligence to take action to make positive changes for the future of this planet.
The Goddess is angry and we have to do something before it's too late. Pagans everywhere know this, and they are taking action. We are embracing the Old Ways, and we will incorporate them with the New, but it will be a New World that will come.
I have found a new way to find great JOY in the community of Pagans I have come to know, and while I have not actually become a member as yet, it is certain that in the near future I will be becoming one of them. And I will be proud.
Thanks for the question.

I was raised Lutheran. I now own a Pagan church. I still hear all kinds of things about Paganism. I have to be tolerant, because I used to say the same things. I even told one of my kids once to take a pentagram necklace off because it represented the devil!...now I hang my head. I get questioned alot about Paganism. Usually for a quick rebuttal I will simply say that paganism isn't so much different then Christianity...we believe in God too...we just happen to believe he is married!
It works, and usually doesn't offend anyone. After all if you use a little common sense the bible itself said that man was created in God's image....how would God know that Adam was lonely if he didn't himself have a wife? Of course following that same train of thought...common sense should also tell you that the "Garden of Eden" was probably a segregated area that God chose to experiment in creating these beings....because after they "ate of the fruit" they were sent out and when their children made war on each other it speaks of going out into another land were marriage occured and then the thousand 'begats' begins...now realistically, who do you figure this boy married if there was no one but Adam, Eve and Cain and Able????? After the tower of babel the family of people that was with Noah was scattered and their languages confused....and yet a whole population was born from them.....not without a little help.
Anyway, I'm rambling....you can check out my web sites for histories and such....just know that being Pagan does not mean you worship the devil. Being Pagan does not mean you use witchcraft to harm. Saying spells is only another form of prayer....and most Christians have no problem with prayer circles. And lastly, a lot of pagans actually believe that there was a man called Jesus...we believe he was a wonderful minister that spread the concepts of peace and a wonderful healer that used the energies of this world and the power of asking for help from above to do this. We just don't worship him on the whole as a God...although some pagans even do that.....kind of like asking a Catholic to interpret the whole bible in a readers digest book to ask me to explain to Christians their misguidance on Paganism...
May the Goddess bless and keep you, May God shine his face down upon you and may the fae bring you peace.

as a christian, I was taught that Wicca, and Paganism was so very tempting because it was "hidden" in the deepest parts of the religion that the "Devil" controlled everything and everyone. The "magic" of it was the devil doing the work for us because we don't have that power.
of course i don't believe this, but it is what is taught.
All devil worship, no such thing as a female goddess or Deity. Or so they say.

things christians have told me about the witchcraft... bear in mind i live in alabama. lol. can't stress enough this is not me talking btw:
1)there is no difference between satanism and witchcraft.
2)paganism doesn't happen anymore. now there is only devil worship.
3)pretty much everything you believe is dark and/or satanic.
4)If a kid has a heart attack in high school, it's the wicca chick's fault because they had an argument the other day. ya know, cuz of the witchcraft.
ya know, the things you'd expect trolls to say. except it's excitingly real. lol.
let's see. my mom, dad, and a sizable portion of the local population.

At first when I was a christian - I was taught paganism on every Sunday; then,
The christians discovered that if you hold church on Wednesdays as well - you increase the money that gets paid in ...; so,
I started then to be taught paganism on Wednesdays as well.
Hope this enlightens you.

That they would rather worship the creation, than the creator.
Romans 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

They'll say nothing, but few realize that most of the christian holidays were actually stolen from the pagans in order to convert more people (pagans) to christianity.

Back when I was a Christian, I was taught it was Satanic.
Christianity is close minded, they need to be more tolerant of others, unfortunately their religion doesn't allow that. (Must not suffer a witch to live...)
