My father is of German descent and my mother of French descent. My father reliquinshed his German citizenship in favor of the United States army and relocated here, and my mother was born in the states and is a current citizen. I was born in the states also, would it be easier to obtain German or French citizenship.

Possibly.

The French are pretty strict and the Germans more so. The general rule (with most countries including Germany) with citizenship is that you get what your parents had at the time of your birth. Depending on when your father gave up his German citizenship would depend on whether or not you can get it.

Since your mother was born in the USA you would not qualify. The French will allow for citizenship for your mother if she was born in France or one of the qualifying territories and she would have had to had her parents apply for her before she turned 18. Since it would be going through 2 generations to get to you it would be rather difficult.

I would think the German only because your dad was born there. Your mom was born in the US so I don't believe the French would give you citizenship from her.My son is a dual citizen (US&Hungarian) his dad was born in Hungary and never gave up his Hungarian citizenship. We contacted the Hungarian embassy in Calif. to get him a H.passport. Good luck...
