If you are talking about magic acts - the most complicated ones use the bar from behind method plus the bar in the limited support to a harness plus cables and change them during the levitation so that the performer can "prove" that nothing is supporting the floating object. Most involve a very strong structure hidden in the chair, etc., and a sophisticated locking brace on the assistant.
