Bollo Chianti is perfect for that type of meal. It is a red wine but it goes quite well with risotto.

It depends on what type of risotto.
Risotto Milanese
or a
Risotto Del Mar
Go with a Pinot Grigiot
Risotto Al a Fungi
or a
Risotto with a heavy cheese like Gorgonzola
I would go with an Amorone or Barolo

If you are going for white, you need something with good weight of fruit, but nice balance of acidity to cut throught the richness of the risotto.
There are many wines that can do this, but two varieties I would recommend are:
Viognier - used for many years as a blending grape, but over the last 5 years becoming a firm favourite on its own. Personal choice is the Yalumba version from Oz.
As it is Italian you are eating, go for a Pinot Grigio from Friuli in the North East of Italy. Refreshing zingy flavours, that are complemented by a nice weight of fruit.
Always take two bottles. One as a "Brucie Bonus" for the host, and the other to quaff at dinner.
Enjoy!

The "rule of thumb" used to be - white wine for
fish dish. Burgundy for red meat. I don't think it is that way anymore. A blush or rose' would work. I'm not a professional wine taster but I have an impression that a plumb Sake would go good. Buy 2 bottles and try it first. If you like it, I'm sure your friend will.

Hi, a nice bottle of red merlot. I suggest this wine because it is smooooth, and most ladies i know enjoy it, as well as the gentlemen. It will go good with any pasta dish. Now for spending a lot of money, no need to. Merlot comes from a lot of countries including the USA and is available in most liquor stores reasonable priced to your wallet. But may i suggests one from Chile, Depending on the amount of people such as 2 or 3 coming, get a 750ml. or 1.5liters It won't go to waste.. Bona-petite

Kim Crawford 2006 Sauvignon Blanc
Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2006. Unfolds with flavors of passionfruit, gooseberry and subtle herbaceousness. The wine is mouthfilling with good texture and finishes well with cleansing acidity and great length. ($16.99)

i would bring a chardonnay, sauvignon blanc or a pinot girgio most of my risotto recipes are made with dry white wine, so if you bring something like that it should complement it very well.
risotto is very rich, almost cream like, though there is not usually any cream in it. so you need a more substantial white. Chard & Sauv Blanc are the best for me.
