Sometimes I think humans are afraid to admit that when it's over it's over.

Sometimes I think it's a pretty egotistical to think there is no end to us.

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with selfish pride - but that could play a part.

I find it especially odd that some humans believe that THEY will go to heaven - but not dogs (or any animals) - because "animals don't have a soul!" Dang! I think that if there is a heaven - dogs are going, for sure!! Dogs are my heaven right now!!

Actually - I don't believe in hell (because God doesn't judge. It's just the Power of Love) - and I'm not sure if I believe in heaven or any kind of an afterlife.

What I DO know for sure is that it doesn't really matter how I got here - or where I'm going. I am here now - and what I do here and now is what's the most important.

The afterlife, Great terminology by the way, is before life, during life and of course after life. Each person creates their role in the Afterlife during their physical existence. It isnt a lottery drawing . Just following orders and doing what people say wont get you where you really want to go. So I do not think it is out of foolish pride that I believe have an eternal spiritual existence. It is the ultimate purpose of my creation and existence in this universe.

There MAY be some pride in the idea that the world loses something marvellous whenever somebody dies.

Personally, I don't think selfish pride has much to do with me assuring other people that their loved ones are still very much alive in spirit.

I believe those who say they have seen ghosts or angels. I've felt the spirit of my Dad nearby at times.... I'm not saying that's proof of anything. I'm just saying that my reasons for assuring people that there is an afterlife is because I believe it with all my heart.

We are eternal beings. No point in denying that because I believe it with every fibre of my soul.

If some people believe out of fear or because of their ego, does that logically imply that what they believe is wrong?

Some people have experienced God and some have been exposed to evidence of an afterlife. The search for God CAN be enormously useful even without such experiences. The only thing questions like yours can accomplish is to get pats on the back from those who worship themselves ("knowing" there is no God is a worship of one's own "reason", "intellect" or superiority) and injecting doubt into those who might otherwise seek to find out for themselves.

God exists and cares - why not try to encounter God and find your own answers instead of criticizing those who might believe for the "wrong" reasons?

I am not sure if it's out of selfish pride.
God gives a real Christian full assurance of his salvation by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in is/her heart.God promises this only to those who repent of their sins and believe the gospel.

Absolutely, it is so arrogant to think that little old us is so important that an almighty god would waste his/her time or effort watching everything everyone of us does when there is an entire galaxy that is 26 billion light across form our point of view.

NOTE The known galaxy is getting bigger every day as the older light finally reaches us.

no, to help others understand life. Eternal life makes much more sense than one life. It helps explain things much better than chance or genetics. Why is one person able to write symphonies at age 3 and another still dumb as a rock at age 65? Unlucky? Bad genes? Not likely.
