But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness...

If Evangelicals have suddenly decided that its time to care about the environment, in spite of the fact that Jesus is coming soon to rapture them away and all, good for them. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
But against this, see Primoa's answer. I swear to God, if I ever forget why I loathe Christianity as a corrupter of morals and values, all I need to do is read his latest response.

The earth's climate has been changing since day one. In fact, the earth's climate was warmer in the year 1000 than it is now. New York was once buried under a mile of ice. That the ice melted shows us that global warming has happened before and it's not necessarily caused by humans.

The Bible teaches us that we have stewardship over the Earth, which implies both authority and responsibility. We Christians should be taking better care of this planet as well as those that live on it, as should all other faiths, agnostics and atheists. The state of the environment is everyone's responsibility regardless of religious belief.

“He is watering the mountains from his upper chambers” and “making green grass sprout for the beasts, and vegetation for the service of mankind.” And he has promised “to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.” (Psalm 104:13, 14; Revelation 11:18)

God doesn't exist, therefore god doesn't think.
But if you need to have god and jesus tell you it is real to change your ways, then by all means.
