Sounds like shin splints to me. I used to be an avid runner and I had those every now and then. It's due to the fact that your shin muscles are more developed in the back than the front and that's where the pain ensues.
The important thing is that you don't stop walking. If you get the splints and then stop, you'll just get them again and again. Keep exercising even when you are sore - just take it easy.
Try this for a remedy: walk on softer ground while you recover (like grass). The pavement is unforgiving when you're sore. Also, as you warm up, try walking or lightly jogging backwards. This helps strengthen the shin muscles. You'll want to walk or jog backwards for about a half mile.
When you are home, try some moist heat to help alleviate the pain. Don't use ice...it'll only make the muscles tighter.
Good luck!

Those are shin splints,I had them from running too much. They are an over-use injury and you body is telling you to slow it down for now.
To stretch the muscles that are causing it,do wall lean- to's.
Put your hands on a wall, bring one foot close to the wall, act like you are trying to touch the wall with your knee.
Try to pass your knee over your foot and feel what happens. You will stretch the muscles really well doing that.
After enough rest and stretches, the shin splints will stop.

If I understand the location of your symptoms, we used to call this "shin splints." I remember it as a symptom of overuse, but I suppose that any condition that caused inflammation of the tendons and ligaments behind the shin could cause this.

I had a similar situation. The doctor told me to take calcium with Vitamin D. The hurting eventually stopped.
