There is a company called Hawkin's Bazaar that sells the world smallest Micro Brewery. The Starter pack makes 10 pints plus the brewery kit costs £19.99 but if you also buy the refill kit for £24.99 another 30 pints it works out to about 95p per pint.
There are two kits Bitter and Lager.

The brewing process takes about 3 weeks.

Try these two p[aces Bier Haus International or eckraus.com Staring up will probably cost about 100 bucks for the first batch because of the cost of fermenting tanks, tools etc. The alcohol level is determined by a triple scale that measures. alcohol content, specific gravity and will let you know when it it time to bottle.
I haven't brewed beer in about 10 years but I do wine. Many of the same tools can be used. The beer will taste very good but will not be at all like what you are buying in the store. There are so many kinds to try but I would stat out with a light Pilsner. ( not light in the alcohol/calories sense)
Read around on the site and get an idea what this will cost and follow the directions to the letter. Good Luck.

You should be able to find a beer making kit locally.
You measure alcohol content with a hydrometer. It will sink lower as the sugar in the brew is turned into alcohol.
One warning, brewing beer will attract any rats living in a 2 mile radius. So have some poison ready for them.

Buy a beer making kit. Has all the stuff you need and full instructions.
Me and my flat mate made some for Xmas and it tasted pretty good. Only we didnt have any scales to weight the sugar so just guessed. Turns out we put too much in and it made it pretty potent stuff.
Your eyesight will return after about a week...
