Yes, Fondant is made out of sugar and water so it is completely edible although it does dry out a bit so it's not the texture of what most people are used to in frosting.

Can You Eat Fondant Icing

2016-11-01 21:57:33 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

Fondant icing is absolutely one of the most disgusting cooking inventions of all time. It has ruined the phrase, "Icing on the Cake" for sure. I went to a party last night and had some of it (again) and still haven't recovered. I just don't learn or I am hung up in the past when icing tasted good. It's consistency is a cross between shoe leather and wax. Can you imagine having to CHEW icing? Some people put a layer of icing under the fondant and just peel off the fondant. It is made largely because of nut allergies but in my book it really 'takes the cake' Please don't do this to your guests just to have a pretty 'sculpted' cake.

It's for eating and decoration, but many people do not like it. If your Dad loves icing on a cake, then he will probably love the fondant. But why go to all the trouble when you can just do an ordinary icing, thick or thin. The cake will still look great, less work and expense and will taste as good as ever. After all it is more about the cake! Icing is mainly for decoration - to make it look good.

I love the way fondant looks. It makes the cake look professionally decorated, not just a cheap sheet cake from Wal-Mart. Of course you can eat fondant, but many people don't like it and will just peel it off. But you have to use a regular frosting on the cake to make the fondant stick to it anyway, so even if they peel off the fondant, the inside layer of regular icing will still be there for flavor. Edit: Judi below is right. I have a friend who does cakes as a hobby, and she makes her own fondant and its not bad. Super sweet, but it tastes fine and looks great. Not ALL fondant is gross.

yes, or else why would they make it. But for me, the kind I've tried, i didn't like it. But maybe there are better kinds out there. As long as it is just cake and the fondant icing, you can eat it. If you've ever seen Ace of Cakes on the Food network, they put support things in the cake because it is more a piece of art and not to eat. Hope this helps :) .
