Loreal is a good brand that I've been using for years. It's pricey, but the colors look true and they stay for a long time.

Go to a hair stylist. Best advice I can give you. "Something simple...just a few shades lighter..." has given me and countless other stylists and home hair colorists(like yourself), nightmares remedying what has done with a box color. There is so much to consider when coloring hair to the perfect shade. Like: what is your skin color?, the color of your hair(natural or dyed)?, is it fine, medium or a course texture?, any other chemical services done to it?, what about medication?, how long do you want the color you've chosen? Just to name a few. The ads make this procedure seem simple, but think of how many times you've been out in public and have seen people with really bad color jobs(too dark, too light, half done, several funky shades, faded color, chunky, uneven highlights). You've probably noticed this more than you realize. Do you want this to be you? If you've been coloring since you were 15 and have gone to a professional, I would strongly urge you to continue. After all, you are most likely making some money at this point in your life and treating yourself shouldn't be such a burden. If I'm wrong, and money is an issue, get some highlights as they don't require a monthly commitment.

No matter what brand you use I would test the color on a small piece of hair underneath so you know how the color will turn out on your particular hair(there are directions for a strand test in the box). The color does not always turn out exactly like the picture on the box. Hope that helps.

a pair of days after bleaching and dyeing my hair blonde I went right into a pool that had in basic terms been taken care of with chemical compounds. I come dwelling house, wash my hair, and be conscious some thing "unusual" on the subject of the visual allure of my hair... The chemical compounds had became my blonde mane right into a Martian-eco-friendly disaster! I had no thought the thank you to get rid of the eco-friendly so i ended slicing it off!

Herbal Essence or Feria by L'Oreal. Garnier is good for darker colors.
