You would be better off in going with the Springfield Armory XD Series. They are even more durable than the Glock.

No firearm is water proof, but if the question is will they fire after being submerged? The answer is yes. Glock has done some pretty harsh tests on their firearms and the firearms continue to function. That being said, you still need to perform maintenance on your firearm to keep them safe and functioning.

Personally, I prefer the Glock .40 cals. The G22 is what is considered the full size frame and has a 4.49" barrel. The G23 is the compact model and has a 4.02" barrel. The G27 is the sub-compact Model and has a 3.46" barrel. Other differences include the standard capacity of the magazines, the overall size to the firearm.

A complete listing of all the specs can be found on the Glock website at:

http://www.glock.com/english/index_pistols.htm

There is one more member to the current Glock .40 cal family. That is the G35. It is what Glock considers to be their tactical .40 cal. It has a 5.32" barrel. It akes the exact same magazines that the G22 takes. In addition to the longer barrel, the G35 has a 4.5 lb. trigger pull. The G22, G23, and G27 have a 5.5 lb standard trigger pull.

Don't listen to that joker about the xd's!! They aren't nearly as well built or strong as the Glock.

If you're not going to buy a 1911 style pistol, go Glock!!!

Also, you can see many videos on youtube of Glocks being fired while submerged under-water.

I don't know any gun that is 'waterproof' in the sense that it can be fired under water... Doing so may cause the gun to come apart/blow up because the barrel is effectively plugged with water. Also pointless shooting underwater because the bullet immediatly spirals and in less than 2ft it has lost its ability to do damage. I would call each company and ask specifically if their weapon can be discharged underwater without damage. Also be aware that the noise/concusion at close range might be hard on the diver (ever fired a 12 gauge bang stick?)
Rifled bullets fired into water create a column or pocket of air that travels down at the impact point but surprisingly the bullet itself almost immediatly spirals off by itself and not in or ahead of the pocket of air.
If you have the weapon under water and come out of the water to shoot it...better fire 2 rounds quickly. One to clear the barrel (hopefully without destroying it) and the second round to be more on target.
Both guns you mention when exposed to water should be completelty broken down and cleaned ASAP. I don't believe either gun has any material in their construction that would be affected (no absorbant material like a wooden grip etc). Both I think have stainless steel parts or plastic. The barrels however may rust over time if not properly cleaned and treated. I know they make Remington 12 guage shotguns for marine use but mostly it is just a nickel plating to prevent rust etc..
I am not familiar with the specific models but one feature to look for or consider is the ability to change clips with a round still in the chamber and able to fire without a clip.
