Make sure you have alot of light/windows otherwise it may seem a little too dark. Having a white ceiling and light colored flooring would be a good contrast.

I think it would also need to be very open, if it is enclosed it may seem too much like a cave.

We are just finishing up our kitchen remodel...our countertops could be considered espresso. We went with a medium brown (similar to Teak) for the cabinets, stainless steel appliances, a dark wood flooring (merbou sp?) to match the rest of the condo, light green walls with an antique white ceiling. We opened up the walls and have plenty of light.

If your kitchen has BIG WINDOWS I think it would be a really classy combination ... but if it has 'small windows' or you would be using it at night, you'd need to be sure that it had 'overlarge' light-fixtures' or lots and lots of 'small lights' or it would be 'way too dark.' Try doing it in 'tan and warm golden brown' and use 'dark brown' or black for the cupboards ... it's the same 'basic colors' but lighter, so it wouldn't be so 'depressing' and 'hard to see' at night.

Not sure how dark Golden Brown is. With the other colors, I hope your kitchen is good sized or it will look really small with all the darkness.

That sounds wonderful- it actually is the theme of a lot of the items I sell in my home decor business so I know that the colors look wonderful in a kitchen setting!

You can really have a good time with that- enjoy it!

expresso- you mean like a dark brown color?

if so, I would make the cupboards a very very dark brown, almost black, but not quite so to match.

the cupboards might be dust-prone

Sounds nice!! Have you checked the color samples of each in person? I think you can also go to HGTV.com and preview how you think it might look. Try painting a couple of patches on the wall and see how you feel after a few days.

Good luck.

Hmmm...

Sounds inviting.

Just make sure the black cupboards are glossy and not flat.
