Talk to the neighbors. He could pull weeds, water flowers, walk the dog, or do any number of odd jobs. Maybe you can him with a garage sale if those same neighbors want to donate items.

Traditionally, 9-year-olds make summer money by doing things like mowing lawns, lemonade stands, dog walking, pet sitting, or doing odd jobs like pulling weeds. I used to make and sell friendship bracelets, which were the fad back then, when I was just a little older than him. It was quite an enterprise. Does he have any skills/crafts he could make or sell?

my mom has me earn money by doing chores around the house.
also i think that helping the neighbors with yard maintenence is a good idea too.(pulling weeds, moving lawns)
also your son could invite some friends over and a a little car wash day.
that would be fun and it is a good way to earn money in the summer!

No. Lawn mowing is too hard for 9 year-olds. maybe he can take care of dogs, babysit them. thats what i used to do when i was 9. if he were a paperboy his classmates would just laugh at him.

Mowing lawns. If he went door-to door and asked people to pay him $20 to mow their lawn, he'd get all the work he needs.

...that is, if you trust him with a lawnmower.
