Obviously were not born with it.
Also I had a response to my last question about teaching a child "faith", so I am wondering how one teaches faith exactly?

I think the method is they tell a child stuff like it's fact, the child trusts the information because it comes from parents or other adults (and figures the grownups should know), and therefore they believe it. If they keep instilling it into their children day after day after day whatever religion they're teaching - the child will do one of two things - either develop faith in the idea they've had crammed down their throat since birth, or they'll rebell and go in search of an alternative belief or non-belief.

The best way to teach FAITH is to live what you expect from your children. Scripture says "Bring up a child in the way they should go and when they are old they will not depart" Some would say that is brainwashing--actually--it countermands what is call a good education without God. Education brainwashes to deny any Faith and rely on a theory that is unproven. No one who grew up in a Christian home will say the people were brain washers but rather loving parents.

You could always use the illustration of sitting down in a chair... you have faith that it will hold you up. But faith is one of those things that you can never adequately teach, faith is something very personal and specific to each person. Though there are many stories of great men and women of faith, the development of faith in a persons life is not an easy thing to teach. We can teach children what is worth putting our faith in, who is faithful and such but we can not really teach them faith. We can teach them how to recognize and appreciate faith but there isn't a real method of teaching them the 'how to's' of faith... God is the only one strong enough and smart enough to teach the wondering heart to put faith in the One whom is not seen.

Let your child see by the way you live, that he/she can have faith in you, and the step to faith in God is an easier one for the child. You are the example the child sees of how a Christian is supposed to live & act. That's how you teach faith.

Put it on their level.

Once in a Sunday School class when I was a teenager the teacher was talking to us about faith. I had a brother living in Japan at the time, the teacher asked how I knew that he was in Japan. I said that I saw him get on the airplane. Yeah, how did I know that the airplane really went to Japan? How did I know that Japan even exsisted? Had I been there? No I told him, I had not been there, but I had learned about it in School- I had seen it on a map. His whole point was that while I could not see Japan, while I had no firsthand knowledge, I still had no doubt that it was there. I had no doubt that my brother was there. Basically I had faith that it exsisted. I took what I had learned from people who knew and who I trusted and I believed them, then I learned all I could about that subject, and though I could not see it, and probably never would, I believed that it exsisted. I believed the testimony of others (ie..clergy, scriptures, etc). That was a great lesson in faith. I have never forgotten that. You can simplify that and teach your child that way.

Give a kid a flower or some other seed.
Tell them you have faith that this seed will grow.
Then ask them what kind of flower they are growing and ask them why. The explanation that we do not know, but trust the seed company to sell the right seed is a way to easily explain faith.
You would then proceed to talk about faith in other things.

What do you mean "faith"? Do you mean to believe in god? Or to believe in a certain faith? It's hard to teach an intelligent being a certain faith unless this certain being wants to learn this faith. But it's not difficult to teach anyone to believe in god. One good thing to do would be to go on a hiking trip or something having to do with nature and explain to the child that mother nature, or god, or the universe, or whatever you want to call it, lives in everything and all that.

I have to disagree with you, we are all born with faith, children are the most trusting people on this earth, and that is what faith is.
but as we get older, and we are disappointed time and time again, until we lose what faith we have.

we can't teach faith, faith is just a miracle that happens.
those of us that have had that miracle happen to them, think it is the greatest miracle of all.
