There has never been good relations between UK and Russia, not since the Revolution.

Fact is we simply do not trust the Ruskies. Their spies are everywhere, including right here in your home town.

On the spy-front, there is very little co-operation between the UK and Russia. Even in the so called "war on terror". They have their own home-grown terrorists and we have ours. We're fighting two separate wars.

Frankly, with all that Oil and Gas, I don't think the Ruskies give a damn what we do.

Back in the 1960s the then USSR [CCCP] leader, Nikita Khrushchev once said, "The United Kingdom is an American Aircraft Carrier". Right first time Nikita baby!

The aim of UK is to stick to our kissin' cousins the Yanks. We have a shared agenda and we also have democratic government big-time. This means any disputes, such as how big the flag on the desk is going to be, can very easily be sorted out after an hour or two of desk banging.

Problem sorted.

Edit: or course the whole thing could just be one big fat greasy smoke screen. I paid particular attention to the recent Bush-Putin meeting and noted the body language. I'd say these two men know each other very well and get on extremely well together.

My impression is that relations between USA & Russia are good to very good. Meanwhile back here in lil'ole England, we've got to squabbling with the Russians about something or other.

Maybe it's just a blind to make 'them' [the enemy] think we've all gone stark staring mad.

Also sending diplomats home is just another way for each side to dump someone they don't like.

I would think that they could head toward another cold war, but all out military acting is not in the picture at least not at this time. Puttin is trying to strengthen his image/power base for his political agenda. I think we will see some more interesting stuff coming from Russia especially once they formally try to make there claim on the North Pole Region (they want the resources) which will be a hot point with the USA.

It certainly doesn't look too positive at the moment. Russias concerns about the Eastward expansion of NATO and the EU has lead to an increasingly close relationship with China. Possibly it will get as bad as during the Cold War but the level of Western investment in Russia makes it unlikely.

It is completely dependent on how you define trouble. If your idea of trouble is all out war (conventional or nuclear) the answer is no. But if you think that trouble can include diplomatic relationships, then yes, Russia feels threatened by Western moves towards former Soviet republics that the Kremlin would still prefer to be Russian.

Not at the moment but both sides need to talk. Russia has every right to be worried we are building bases all around them and setting up missile defenses. Granted we are not doing it to invade Russia but to them it looks like a massive threat moving east.

Not, I don't think Russia wants trouble with the US for my knowledge on History.

I think we are just going through a ritual dance and something else will crop up soon.

No!

The only nation waging war happily right now is the USA which is heading for trouble with itself.

Beware of the Latino invasion of America!
