So far I've painted the room a neutral tan color with an accents wall in terracotta (dark orange)...Ideally I would like a bed or sofa to go agaist that wall. I'm not sure what type of furniture and accessories I should purchase to make it look very ethnic yet classy for our guests.

I would avoid tacky stuff like themed borders, chile print curtains, etc.
I would suggest stuff like: rustic chunky wood, wrought iron, bright colored art, ceramic suns and other Mexican folk art, tropical plants...
Here's a link to a Mexican decor importer that might give you some ideas:

Get some mexican blankets (serapa's)sp? Yhey are all different colored lines and woven very nice to hang on the wall or use as a rug.. That would be a nice "ethnic" touch. Maybe some mexican style pottery as well.. When I think of mexican furniture I think "rustic" maybe a TV armoire or some side tables.. Look at World Market/Pier 1... Maybe instead of a bed looking into a sleeper sofa combo.. I looked at a few pieces from ValueCityFurnature depending on where you are from... There's the Stone Canyon Collection that looked interesting.... It's chunky and distressed... Also look at flea/antique markets you might find some accessories for your room.. A homemade Pinata, things like that.. Good luck

Possibly a rought iron bed frame that you can apply an "antique" finish to would look good in that room. If you could find some type of border with a mexican flare, that would spice up the room as well. If your into painting, paint some decrotive themes on the wall, ie peppers, beer bottles, margarita glasses, anything just be creative. If you have a window with a ledge, try getting a small cactus plant and place it on the ledge, maybe hang a big sombrero in the corner.

Wrought iron accents such as decorative trivets and wall medallions look great over the orange, beige, yellow and even bright blue of authentic Mexican neighborghood decor. To get that look of having been there forever, paint the base coat of walls with a roller but go back over it with a brush. Use the brush fairly dry and stretch the strokes out. You'll get a mottled effect. For even greater authenticity try spreading a little joint compound on the wall surface before painting to create minor surface inconsistencies. Do not try too hard for complete coverage with the paint. Now it will look like it has chipped over many years!

Bright colored cushions, a large serape throw for the sofa or bed.

Look at a store with a large assortment of pictures. You should be able to find something with a Mexican theme.

The furniture would be more of a rustic type.

CHECK OUT IRON WOOD. IT HAS THAT OLD WESTERN LOOK AND WOULD DO THE TRICK PERFECTLY.
USE LOTS OF NATURAL COLORS. BUT I THINK THE IRON WOOD DO THE BEST THING
