I am attending a wedding this weekend..the colors are black (bridal party) white (bride and groom) with pink accents. Would it be socially 'wrong' of me to wear a black dress?

Thanks :)

WOW! Some people are really rude! I often wonder where some people come from....you've never worn black anywhere but to a funeral! Please!

I thank you all who have answered my question. It is a nice wedding and I will be wearing a new black dress :)

I went to a black and pink wedding a couple of weeks ago, and wore a black dress. Many other girls there also wore black dresses and I don't think there's anything wrong with it! Most people won't know what colours the party are wearing until the actual day so there's no way to avoid it in some cases. It'll be fine as long as you aren't wearing white!

Thats a tough one, I love black, and have worn black to many weddings and events......however wearing the same color as the bridal party is not a good idea...but how many times do people not know what the colors are and wear the same color.......SO my opinion is you could wear the dress....if you dont have any part in the wedding and will not be in the spotlight at all.....then you wont be taking away from the party.

A black dress isn't appropriate for a wedding guest, whether it matches the bridal party or not. How about a happy colour?

I think a black dress is just fine and probably guarantee you won't be the only one. I was married in May and there were several girls who wore black dresses. What if you had no way of knowing her colors were black, white and pink? I wouldn't sweat it at all!

The three colors you never wear to a wedding are white, red, and black.
The reason it's considered unacceptable to wear white and red is because the bride will be wearing white and it's HER day. We don't want to detract attention from her by wearing her color or something as bright as red.
The reason black isn't acceptable is because it's the tradtional color of mourning. Weddings are happy events! We're celebrating love and joy! Wearing black would send the wrong message.
Of course, nowadays tradition is going completely out the window and people are ignoring etiquette. Call me old fashioned if you like. I call it being respectful.

EDIT: Since when is respecting tradition and etiquette considered being rude?

a black and white wedding is an attempt for the bride to have her wedding as formal as possible. I had one.

Lots of people wore black....because it was a formal event. My mom and mothernlaw had beautiful dresses on. So, in my opinion...do it!

No, not at all. If I were you, I wouldn't wear pink acessories though, so that people don't mistake you for part of the bridal party.

no itis not wrong when it is black and white wedding, however I hate when people wear black to a wedding. It is not a funeral, it is a wedding. And unless it is an evening wedding you should not wear such a dark color. I woudl try to spruse it up with a another color accent so that you do not look like one of the bridal party.
