What is the best gun to shoot rattlesnakes with? I'm a decent shooter.... I would say the range will be within 20 feet, if not closer.

A BB or pellet gun will do fine but if you want to go all out and slaughter them you could use a .22 but be carefull cuz the bullets could bounce off a rock, water, or a flat area so I would probably stick to a BB or pellet gun, shoot em in the head and they are a goner. I hope this hellped i only shoot gardner snakes with a daisey 880 BB gun (witch works nice) and don't know much about rattlesnakes so good luck.

If you are looking for a smaller "snake neutralizer" You can use any 4" barrel or longer .38 Special or 22 magnum pistol and use CCI Shotshells thru either one. These are pistol bullets that are designed not to hurt your gun and they are loaded with a bunch of #12 shotgun pellets and are available at most any sporting goods store or gun dealer. They sell for around $6.50 per 12 in a plastic box. They are easy to spot and can't be confused with other ammunition because the have a clear/blue capsule covering the shot. This blue cap disintegrates upon shooting.(The bigger caliber handgun the more shot pellets) Deadly to poisonous snakes from 3-15 feet. The effect in like a mini shotgun. Just aim generally at the head area. When I'm hunting or camping out west I carry an old Smith & Wesson 4" or 6" barrel revolver loaded with these shells.(These will not function throuh any semi-automatic firearm..Just revolvers) I've killed about 5 Rattlers to date and never just wounded them. If you are worried about distance any regular 410 gauge shotgun will do loaded with #6 shot shells. The 410 will blow them away up to about 25-30 feet away., but be careful of the backround behind the snakes. They love to sun themselves on rocks and the pellets can of course riccochet. Good Luck!

Any shotgun. For that close range a .410 would be ideal. Any birdshot would work fine. I would opt for #8 or #7 1/2 in 3 inch loads. Choke size wouldn't really matter either. I am not a big fan of the pistol shot shells as patterns are really big and doesn't put down with authority. In a pistol, I like .38 specials, with a 100 grain wadcutter using a small charge on Unique powder.

You CAN use the shotshells in an autopistol, you just have to rack the slide manually after each shot.

Shot shells are made for .38/.357, .44, 9mm, .40 s&w, .45 acp and most importantly... .22lr! .22Lr Shotshells are very good at killing snakes though they do lack in range.

Regular .22's will kill snakes.

.410's will definitely kill snakes but they are much louder.

I like a .22 with shotshells, or solid bullets.

i use a 22 magnum. 410 pistol 7 shot shot at head or if in a boat find something like a pattle and hit it in the back bone they die in a second if you use a higher caliber gun than a 410. you just aim and blow them up then get a shovel and cut the head off because they they can still bite will dead good luck hope this helps

one million. All snakes are secure species in Australia, you could in basic terms kill them in the event that they pose an instant danger to you or encroach on your place, even then you definately are favored to call a snake catcher to eliminate them. 2. taking photographs a snake, or could I say AT a snake is unnecessary......they could be almost impossible to hit...........a length of cord or chain is a approaches greater useful with the aid of fact of their flexibility, and the relative top of a snake and a human........ 3. There has no longer in any respect been a regulation or law banning snakes from biting human beings.

Every snake that I have shot has been shot with a 20 gauge. It will definitely shoot 20 feet.

410 is the way to go! You can pick up an inexpensive single shot anywhere. A double barrel would help if you miss or come across two. More than two you need a grenade. If you have a revolver around, you could also load it up with shotshells, they're like .38 shotgun shells.

it depends if you have a revolver in a caliber like 38 special 357 mag 44 mag or 45 long colt or 22 you can buy snake shot at wall-mart its like little shotgun shells just aim for the head and remember even if there dead they can still bite you. after you shoot one get a shovel and cut its head off you don't need a 12GA just to kill a snake i have killed them with rocks too the head when i have nothing else at hand you cant beat a good 22 rifle or pistol and its also not as loud good luck

I would use a .22 caliber, just because I enjoy shooting .22's.There is also a .410 gauge that is known as either a Snake Gun or Snake Charmer.
