I think it's ridiculous that baseball (a summer game) must be played during snow storms in April and during the playoffs and World series. Start in May and end the reg. season on Labor Day. That way, the WS will be over before Halloween!

Don't get me started about the NHL: the playoff are too long and so many teams make the playoffs, so the reg season is almost meaningless!

162 games is perfect, the season is a marathon and not a sprint. The team that wins the championship is the one that persevered and they earned every bit of the glory that goes along with it.

I agree that MLB should shorten the season by a week at the end of the season. It will never happen though. If I remember correctly, the current agreement with the players union allows for up to 8 day/night doubleheaders. The league cannot schedule any due to possible doubleheaders caused by weather. I remember the 70s when every team scheduled at least 4 back to back doubleheaders every season. I would love to see that happen again, except make each team schedule 8 and make them day/night, so the owners can sell tickets to both games. By scheduling 8, you knock off 8 days from the season. This would make it possible to have the 1st round of the playoffs completed by October 1. You could start the League championship series on October 3 and the World Series on October 15.

A return to the 154 game season IS in order. It would create some confusion as to just what records should be recognized though. Player who played during a "long season" era would have to be noted as such in some fashion. Just take a look at Roger Maris and all the flak that was dished out over home run #61. It wouldn't invalidate those records, but put them into a context of era. This context would include all records of a single season, and those of a career.
The World Series belongs in October. Starting the playoffs a week earlier would still accomplish that.
Once the World Series is over, we are in the heart of the Football season, and life is good.

No, it's fine the way it is. I do think, though, that more doubleheaders should be scheduled. That way the World Series can be played in something close to reasonable weather.

Team and individual records would be a mess if the season went back to 154 games. Many people remember the famous asterisk next to Roger Maris's name when he hit 61 home runs. With a shorter schedule, the record book would become a sea of asterisks, footnotes, and disclaimers.

Money is the primary reason, and that's not going to change. Hockey and basketball are played in June, and baseball could easily extend into November with World Series postponements. But it all brings in the big bucks. Unfortunately, that's what it's all about.

no, MLB couldn't make the season very short as they would starve as will lost a lot of money. The important is the money that the league need to alive as avoid to lead into the lockout or strike as can cancel the World Series or playoff. Remember, the baseball is part of America's history as the baseball is founded in this country. Currently the league wants 30 teams to playing 81 games at home and 81 games at away. That can lead the MLB earns more millions dollars to keep the league survive w/o suck of lockout.

They should cut the season some. It's getting way too long now with the World Series sometimes going into November. I'd say at least start by going back to 154 games like in Babe Ruth's days. That would be a small step, then you can see how that works.

The only time of year that is in question is April.

Maybe a good idea would be to just play weekend games in April. But keep everything else the same.

Or, have the Northern teams play the first 3 weeks April in the South or West.

Nah, 162 games is just fine.

Although I'm fine with the postseason now, they should do something with the postseason. I wonder how it would be like if they allowed 8 playoff spots for each league or a best-of-7 series no matter which playoff round it is.

If games are cut it should only be to give teams more off days. I think the World Series is fine in October.

I'm glad the commissioner of baseball didn't ask you. I think the season is fine the way it is.

Besides, if you're a Pirates fan your season is going to end earlier than the WS anyway.
