I've read about both, but I can't decide.

I considered being Christian, but that was not the religion for me. So please, don't answer if you're going to say "be a christian". Thank you.

I like Buddhism very much, but I prefer Taoism. It does not give such specific directions, and it is not based on the idea that life is pain - I don't agree that is necessarily the case.

I suppose it depends on your personal taste. I like the idea of opening myself to the Tao and going with what comes; with framing my life to achieve the desired outcome rather than forcing it. This works very well with my disposition. I am an instinctual creature and I don't care for structure.

But if I wasn't a Taoist I'd be Buddhist, it's a very wise path to follow.

Chinese and Japanese Buddhism adopted Taoism quite liberally. Hotei was originally a Taoist character who was reformed as a Buddist character. He is not the buddha but people often refer to Hotei as the Laughing Buddha.
Hotei is the one who carries a big bag of treats for children.

According to both Taoism and Buddhism you can do both together at the same time. They don't care.

i like taoism because it is about following with nature.
